Beyer Family | Portraits with Purpose | Minneapolis Family Photographer

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you already know about my Portraits with Purpose work. Just in case you aren’t familiar with Portraits with Purpose, it’s my way of trying to make the world a better place, one person/family at a time. I consider it kind of a separate branch of my photography business that I use to help people going through a tough time. Most of the time it’s been used for cancer patients, but it’s not exclusive to that. Cancer patients and their families have a very difficult journey physically, emotionally and often time, financially. The gift of a portrait session can really help heal mentally (who doesn’t like to feel pretty when they are going through chemo?!) and bring the family together. Enough about that, you get the idea, right?!

Now, on to the fabulous Beyer Family…

I’ve known Barb, Tim and the kids for many years now through our kids. Her middle child, Sarah and their youngest, Matt were in sports with my kids. We’ve sat on many sidelines together! I also had the honor of taking their oldest daughter, Alaina’s, senior portraits. Taking her family portraits for Portraits with Purpose is bittersweet for me. I hate the fact that it’s needed. Cancer sucks and my heart aches that she and her family have to take this journey. On the other hand, I feel privileged and thankful that I can do this one small thing to help.

Barb is one of the sweetest people I know! We share a passion for reading and usually like the same things. I can’t even count how many books and book series I’ve gotten her addicted to! LOL She has such a unique voice that every time I think of Barb, I hear her voice in my head. I just love Barb to pieces and know that she has the strength to beat this!

Here’s a slideshow I created with a lot of the images from the Beyer’s session. They were SO fun to work with! Man, those girls sure have fun with their little brother (usually picking on him, but he’s such a good sport!).

And some of my favorite images…

Cassidy | Class of 2012 | Minneapolis Senior Photographer

It doesn’t seem possible but Cassidy is already the third sister in this family to come to me for their senior portraits. The oldest, Kaitlin, has already graduated from college. Their mom, Jeanne, was one of the first to give me a chance and I’m so thankful for clients like her! Crazy how fast time passes us by…
Cassidy drove over an hour to meet up with me for her session (and brought a friend who was such a fantastic reflector holder, you’d think he had done it before!). And she had just had ankle surgery a week earlier. She was full of energy and just so excited to be walking without crutches that I was worried I was pushing her too hard. I didn’t need to worry… she never tired and was such a trooper! I think the fact that she’s an athlete helped her get back on her feet so quickly.
Thanks, Cassidy, you were great!!

Laurel and Family | Minneapolis Family Photographer

Anyone who knows Laurel, knows she’s a riot! She’s funny, full of life, loves to sing and be on stage and has now become quite the leading lady in some local productions. I’m looking forward to finally getting to see one of them soon. Laurel’s family is so great to work with that I always look forward to having them on my calendar!
The first images are from Laurel’s headshot session a while back (that I’m late in blogging!), the rest are from their recent family session.

Jacobson Family | Minneapolis Family Photographer

I’ve been lucky enough to have Leigh as a member of my Class of 2012 Sr Representatives this year. Leigh has been such a pleasure to work with and when I had the opportunity to work with her entire family, I wasn’t surprised that they’re all just as awesome! Kim ordered the family image nice and big and framed and it looks amazing… she cried when she first saw it! Melts my heart when a client reacts that way when they first see their finished art. Here are a few of my favorites from their family session.

My kids and remembering Daisy | Personal

I’m so far behind on blogging and will really try to stay more up to date!

Getting personal is not something I do much here. Not sure why. Maybe because I have a hard time letting people in. It’s something I’m going to try to be better at…

Those of you who know me personally, know we had two dogs for a while. We’ve had our Vizsla, Ruby, for about 5.5 years now and she’s still great. When my father in law passed away a year and a half ago, we acquired Dave’s mom and dad’s little Yorkie, Daisy. She was a special link to his dad because sweet, little Daisy was his favorite. She was full of spunk and we lovingly nicknamed her Punky. She was only 4.5 when she got sick a few months ago. Poor Daisy endured a lot in the hopes of her getting better. She put up a good fight and got much better physically but never recovered neurologically. We had to say goodbye a couple weeks ago. I can’t even tell you how much I miss that sassy little girl.

The above photos were taken just a couple days before we had to say goodbye. (Layout by In the Making Designs and purchased at jessicasprague.com) When I made the appointment with the vet, I knew I still needed some time. You see, Daisy was never a fan of my studio (she was actually quite scared every time I used it) so I was sorely lacking in photos of her. She was looking pretty scraggly and was in desperate need of a good haircut but she couldn’t handle that kind of stress. I knew that I would regret not having more photos of her so I did what I could and gave myself a few extra days. I don’t mind that she’s a bit rough around the edges in these. What’s important is that I have them. The importance of a photograph… PRICELESS! I would have been crushed if I didn’t have these. I still miss her terribly, but at least I have these photos to remember her by. Note to self… take more pictures of LIFE! As a photographer, I get in a cycle of only taking them for clients or if I take my kids out for a photo shoot. Need to change that.

On a happier note, my kids are great! Kya is a High School Jr and taking some college courses this year. She loves the schedule and the freedom! Between school and working, she’s a very busy girl. Nick is in 8th grade. Even though football season will close in a few weeks, that doesn’t mean he will have any more free time. Soccer for him is pretty much year-round now (he’s the goal keeper for his team) and he can’t wait until the snow flies so he can snowboard again. Don’t kill the messenger, it’s not me that’s looking forward to snow! They are growing so fast and Dave and I are beyond proud of these kids. Here are a few favorite recent pics of them.

Thanks for sticking around for this long post!
